Ghana Health Service urges public to take preventive measures against Lassa Fever

    • The Ghana Health Service is working tirelessly to contain the Lassa Fever outbreak in Ghana, with 14 confirmed cases and one death recorded so far.

    The Ghana Health Service has intensified efforts to control the outbreak of Lassa Fever in Ghana, following the confirmation of 14 cases and one death as of February 28, 2023. Contact tracing and testing have led to the identification of 97 contacts, with efforts underway to identify more.

    The public is urged to take necessary precautions to prevent the further spread of Lassa Fever, including avoiding contact with rodents, ensuring good environmental hygiene, and avoiding contact with blood and body fluids while caring for sick persons. The Ghana Health Service is providing psychological support to all cases and contacts.

    The outbreak of Lassa Fever in Ghana has raised concerns among Ghanaians, who are being reminded of the need to report to the nearest health facility when unwell. The Ghana Health Service is working closely with other stakeholders to ensure that the outbreak is contained and that adequate measures are taken to prevent future outbreaks.

    The GHS continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Let us all do our part to prevent the spread of Lassa Fever in Ghana. Remember, prevention is better than cure.
