Manchester United pulled off an astonishing comeback victory on Saturday, beating Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford thanks to two stoppage-time goals from Scott McTominay.
The home side struggled to break down a resolute Brentford defense for most of the match. Anthony Martial thought he had equalized in the 90th minute but his goal was ruled out for offside.
However, the drama was only just beginning. In the 95th minute, McTominay pounced on a loose ball in the box and hammered it home to stun Brentford and tie the game at 1-1.
Shellshocked, the visitors conceded again just four minutes later. McTominay rose highest to head home a pinpoint cross from Christian Eriksen, claiming his second goal to seal an improbable three points for United.
The comeback electrified Old Trafford, with McTominay mobbed by his ecstatic teammates after his heroic brace. United had looked destined for defeat before the Scottish midfielder took matters into his own hands deep into added time.
The win lifts United into fourth place in the Premier League table and provides a much-needed confidence boost. After recent struggles at Old Trafford, manager Erik ten Hag will be thrilled with his team’s never-say-die attitude as they snatched just their second home win out of their last five matches in the most dramatic of fashions.
